Coming up: Harry Potter reviews

Post 9.1.jpg

Well, the title says it all doesn’t it? In the coming weeks, 7 new posts will be coming online, one per Harry Potter book. Why, you ask?

I can honestly say that I grew up with Rowling’s books. I found the first one quite by accident while browsing the book store with a coupon (10th birthday gift) that I needed to spend. My father actually picked up the first Harry Potter book and handed it to me as a possible read. I wasn’t very enthusiastic after reading the blurbs and quickly running through the book. But after another 15 minutes with no serious contenders, I ended up taking the Harry Potter book home anyway. And boy, was I glad! I loved the books and every time I waited anxiously for the next book to come out. By the last book it got so bad that I went out and bought the English version because I just couldn’t wait for the Dutch translation (thankfully, I already knew enough English to fully understand and appreciate this final book in the series).

I will not delve into the movie adaptations right now (there will be a post coming about that eventually), but I do have a fun anecdote about Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It was released on DVD in Belgium early December and six months later (in May), it was my Holy Communion. My parents somehow managed to hide the fact that the DVD was already available from me until the day of my Communion and gave it to me as a gift afterwards. I had been nagging them for weeks to get the DVD because I knew it was supposed to come out but they managed to keep me in the dark. Of course, that day I figured out that the DVD probably had been available earlier, but I was still very happy. Until now, I’ve never forgotten when I got that DVD and how excited I was (I wanted to go home immediately to watch it), so thanks for the memories Mom & Dad!
