New releases: August 2016 – romance

Post 101

For this month’s last overview of new releases, I’ve decided to take on the romance genre. So get ready for the top 5 of new Romance release in August 2016. We’ve got a story about a girl who starts to doubt herself just when she got everything she’s worked for, including the perfect man, and needs to choose between her past and present to decide her future. Then there is a sort of modern Romeo & Juliette set in the motorcycle racing world. Third is a romance story set in a darkly magical world where two people need to save each other. Fourth up is a book about a washed-up writer reading a bestselling novel that turns out to be about her own past, written by her  first love who has taken creative license prompting her to go and confront him. And the top 5 is ended by a story about a rich, wealthy man battling his shady family, seeing himself turn to the dark side in doing so, and clinging to a beautiful girl (with secrets of her own) to keep him straight.

  1. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
    Publication date: August 2nd 2016
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened. With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.
  2. Furious Rush by S. C. Stephens
    Publication date: August 23rd 2016
Too fast, too furious-and way too hot to handle… Mackenzie Cox has a lot to prove. Daughter of a racing legend, she is eager to show the world that she has inherited her father’s talent in the male-dominated sport of professional motorcycle racing. The last thing Kenzie needs is to be antagonized by her rival team’s newest rider, Hayden Hayes. Plucked from the world of illegal street racing, Hayden immediately gets under Kenzie’s skin. His insinuations that Kenzie is a spoiled princess who was handed her career fuels her desire to win, and much to her surprise, Kenzie soon learns she performs better when she’s racing against Hayden. As Kenzie and Hayden push each other on the track, the electric energy between them off the track shifts into an intense–and strictly forbidden–attraction.
  3. Risk by Dannika Dark (Mageri)
    Publication date: August 16th 2016
Simon Hunt is a masterful Mage when it comes to knives, solving puzzles, and women. But when a Mageri Councilman asks for a personal favor, his skills are put to the test. He reluctantly accepts the impossible job of training a young Learner who is beyond anyone’s help. She’s beautiful, cunning, and disabled. If he succeeds, he’ll receive a hefty paycheck. But if he fails, more is at stake than merely his reputation. A compelling tale about two lost souls with dark secrets and the unique connection they share. Simon is her last hope… and perhaps she is his. What happens when a game of chance becomes a fight for survival?
  4. Swear on This Life by Renee Carlino
    Publication date: August 9th 2016
When a bestselling debut novel from mysterious author J.Colby becomes the literary event of the year, Emiline reads it reluctantly. Yet from the very first page, Emiline is entranced by the story of Emerson and Jackson, because the novel is patterned on Emiline’s own dark and desperate childhood, which means that “J. Colby” must be Jase: the best friend and first love she hasn’t seen in over a decade. Far from being flattered that he wrote the novel from her perspective, Emiline is furious that he co-opted her painful past and took some dramatic creative liberties with the ending. The only way she can put her mind at ease is to find and confront “J. Colby,” but is she prepared to learn the truth behind the fiction?
  5. Hard Rules by Lisa Renee Jones (Dirty Money #1)
    Publication date: August 9th 2016
Wall Street meets the Sons of Anarchy in the smoldering, scorching first novel in the explosively sexy new Dirty Money series from New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones. The only man within the Brandon empire with a moral compass, Shane Brandon is ready to take his family’s business dealings legitimate. But the harder Shane fights to pull the company back into the light, the darker he has to become. Then he meets Emily Stevens, a woman who not only stirs a voracious sexual need in him, but becomes the only thing anchoring him between good and evil. She trusts him. He trusts her, but therein lies the danger. Emily has a secret, the very thing that brought her to him in the first place, and that secret that could that destroy them both.

As you know, my to-read list is already so enormous that I will never get to it all. A part of that reading list is already waiting for me on my bookshelves and the virtual one on Goodreads also keeps on growing. That is why I have decided to only add books anymore that really excite me. From this list, only one does so and has thusly been added to my list: number four. I dabble in a bit of writing myself, so to have that element included in what seems to be a great romance novel, is exciting for me. I don’t know when I’ll get around to reading it, but I’m already excited! How about you?

Happy reading,

Loes M.
