New releases: November 2016 – fantasy

post-134

To be honest, I did not look beyond the first book of this month’s top 5 new fantasy releases. Harry Potter, enough said.

  1. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay by J. K. Rowling
    Publication date: November 19th 2016
J.K. Rowling’s screenwriting debut is captured in this exciting hardcover edition of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them screenplay. Featuring a cast of remarkable characters, this is epic, adventure-packed storytelling at its very best. When Magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in New York, he intends his stay to be just a brief stopover. However, when his magical case is misplaced and some of Newt’s fantastic beasts escape, it spells trouble for everyone…
  2. Congress of Secrets by Stephanie Burgis
    Publication date: November 1st 2016
In 1814, the Congress of Vienna has just begun. Royals from across the continent come together to celebrate the downfall of Napoleon…among them the wealthy English widow Lady Caroline Wyndham. But Caroline has a secret: she was born Karolina Vogl, daughter of a radical Viennese printer and alchemist. Under a new name and nationality, she returns to save her father. But she isn’t expecting to meet her father’s old apprentice, Michael Steinhüller, now a charming con man in the middle of his riskiest scheme ever. The sinister forces that shattered Caroline’s childhood still rule Vienna behind a glittering facade of balls and salons, Michael’s plan is fraught with danger, and both of their disguises are more fragile than they realise. What price will they pay to the darkness if either of them is to survive?
  3. The Facefaker’s Game by Chander J. Birch
    Publication date: November 1st 2016
A picaresque fantasy about a clever young beggar who bargains his way into an apprenticeship with a company of thieving magicians and uses his newfound skills in a vendetta against a ruthless crime lord. A dramatic adventure story full of wit, charm, and scheming rogues, The Facefaker’s Game introduces an unforgettable world you won’t soon want to leave.
  4. Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection by Brandon Sanderson (The Cosmere)
    Publication date: November 22nd 2016
Brandon Sanderson’s first story collection: novellas and short stories set in the Shardworlds, the worlds of Stormlight, Mistborn, Elantris, and more. An all-new Stormlight Archive novella will be the crown jewel of Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection, the first book of short fiction by #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson. The collection will include eight works in all.
  5. The Dragon’s Legacy by Deborah A. Wolf (The Dragon’s Legacy #1)
    Publication date: November 21st 2016
The last Aturan King is dying, and as his strength fades so does his hold on sa and ka. Control of this power is a deadly lure; the Emperor stirs in his Forbidden City to the East, while deep in the Seared Lands, the whispering voices of Eth bring secret death. Eight men and women take their first steps along the paths to war, barely realising that their world will soon face a much greater threat; at the heart of the world, the Dragon stirs in her sleep. A warrior would become Queen, a Queen would become a monster, and a young boy plays his bird-skull flute to keep the shadows of death at bay.

Do I even need to say which book ended up on my to read list? I even already pre-ordered it. I’m watching the movie this weekend, so I will be reading the book next week probably. Stay tuned for that review! But because this book was already on my to read list ever since it was announced, I added another book to my to read list this week: the second one, because the summary really intrigued me.

How about you? What will you be reading? Other new releases of November 2016 can be found by genre right here on Goodreads.

Happy reading,

Loes M.
