Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find out anything about this lovely little poem, except that it was written by Lora Daunt. So it’s time to play the guessing game again. Lora Daunt is a woman, who was in her late thirties to early forties when she wrote this. She is an avid reader, has been for most of her life. She’s the kind of person you can go to when you’re feeling down, and she’ll tell you just what to read to lift your spirits. She’s always there with book recommendations and she loves to discuss favourite books with friends and anyone who will listen.
I love this poem because it’s how I feel about books. They are so much more than paper and ink, magical stories and worlds are created within them, for us to journey to whenever they’re opened. Enjoy!
What is a Book?
By Lora Daunt
A book is pages, pictures and words
A book is animals, people and birds
A book is stories of queens and kings
Poems and songs-so many things!
Curled in a corner where I can hide
With a book, I can journey far and wide
Though it’s only paper from end to end
A book is a very special friend.
Happy reading,
Loes M.
