Hallelujah, the day we have all been waiting for has arrived: Harry Potter – Hogwarts Mystery is now out! You can download it in the App Store and Google Play Store. Let’s get you going with the launch trailer first:
I’ve just downloaded the game and it’s charging as we speak! First off, you need to set up your character by choosing:
- First and last name
- Your Hogwarts House
- What you look like
I’ve chosen to be Marie Lewis, I’m a Hufflepuff (as decided by the official Pottermore sorting hat) and this is what my character looks like:
So the game starts with you going to Hogwarts for your first year of school. You’re arriving with a bit of a reputation because of your older brother Jacob. So Jacob is automatically from the same House as you, so in my case, he’s a Hufflepuff. He was a bit of a troublemaker because he spent most of his time at Hogwarts looking for the Cursed Vaults. Much like the Chamber of Secrets, students have been talking about these five faults and trying to find them for years. According to the rumours, they not only contain gold but also magical artifacts. Nobody knows who built them or why or even where exactly. And like the Chamber of Secrets, these faults aren’t legend but actually exist.
So Jacob has been looking for them and people think he even found one or more of them. But nobody can be sure since Jacob was expelled from Hogwarts for breaking school rules and even endangering the school itself. After that, he disappeared and nobody has seen him since, including the character we play with. Gossip says he unleashed dark curses on the school and that he joined Voldemort after he quit school. So basically, this character now arrives at Hogwarts with a hell of a reputation and people gossiping about her and her brother. She has come to school to try and figure out what happened to her brother and prove everybody wrong about him!
The goal of the game is to make friends (like our very first friend Rowanna), attend classes, impress teachers and at the same time figure out these Cursed Vaults to find your brother. You get a certain amount of energy that you can use to do actions. Taking a two-star class, for example, takes about 25 energy points so you can do it in one try. Every class has a timer, so you need to finish it within the hour or 3 or 8 hours depending on difficulty. When the energy is up, you have to wait for it to come back: 4 mins per energy point. And the money is used to either buy clothes or to pay for tasks where you have to befriend people. And that should be enough to get you started!
Good luck my fellow witches and wizards in your first year of Hogwarts!
