St. Martin’s Press has sent me another e-book for review through NetGalley. Maybe for You is the third book in the Whiskey and Weddings series written by Nicole McLaughlin. It’s a small town romance about an ex-military girl and a playboy.

She’s never had a no-strings fling. He’s never had anything else. But maybe this time will be an exception?

After a year of mourning her fiancé, Alexis Parker has worked hard to rediscover what she wants out of life. Fresh out of the military and back stateside, her brother offers her a marketing job at the Stag Distillery. Ready for a new challenge, Alexis agrees to accompany her new co-worker Jake Cooperon a Stag cross-country promotional tour. He may have an infamous playboy reputation, but Alexis is surprised to find out that there is more to him than meets the eye. And she likes what she sees. . .

Jake promised Alexis’s brother that he’d be an absolute gentleman. Of course, that was before he and Alexis hit the road, and they both agree that what Alexis’s big brother doesn’t know won’t hurt him. The plan: to keep their fling confined to the RV, and everything will go back to normal once they head home. Things progress in ways neither of them could have imagined, and Jake realizes that he and Alexis make a perfect mix. Can he convince her that he’s ready to shake things up and give true love a shot?

So, the female lead is Alexis, she’s a military girl who’s gone through a lot. Just when she and her fiance were about to leave the military and start their happily ever after, her fiance died – in action. So, she re-enlisted for a few more years to mourn and try to get her life back. Afterward, she returns home and her brothers offer her a job in marketing in their company, a whiskey distillery. For her first mission, she joins Jake on a cross-country promotional tour.

The male lead, Jake is a friend of her brothers, who runs the marketing department in the distillery. He is a bit of an eternal bachelor and ladies man. Jake is feeling a little lost lately, like his friends don’t really appreciate his efforts in the company and like his life isn’t going anywhere. So he decides to make this trip his last and then quit the company.

Alexis and Jake know each other from when they were young, since he’s been friends with her brother for a long time. Nowadays they haven’t seen each other in a while. When Alexis comes back, there seems to be a lot of sexual tension between them. So as they go on their adventure, they decide to have some fun. Alexis wants to dip her toe back in the dating pool, and Jake is just hot for her (and he’s also thinking about leaving his bachelor ways and becoming more responsible).

Naturally, the fling turns out to be more serious. It’s exactly what Alexis needs to get back to her old self and give love another chance. For Jake, she is the one that finally makes him grow up and take responsibility. Their casual fling turns into a serious relationship and as it turns out, they’re perfect for each other.

I loved that it’s they start out as friends, then turns into a friends with benefits situation and then they realize they love each other and can’t live without each other. It’s quite natural, nothing rushed, and their shared past is the perfect basis for a long-term love. They are perfect for each other and they bring out the best in each other. Loved it!

For every fan of second-chance romances!

Happy reading,

Loes M.
