I don’t just read, I also watch a lot of movies. I just love stories, in all the different ways they’re told. And I just got this Movie Bucket List poster with 100 movies must-see movies. I started with scratching off everything I’ve already seen.
I was actually pretty proud of myself. I’ve seen hundreds of movies and I own over 350 DVD’s. And I was happy to see that I’ve watched a lot of movies that are considered among the greatest ever made. So I thought, what better way to introduce movies to my little blog, then with a top 100 of must-see movies.
Today’s movie: The Prestige from 2006, directed by Christopher Nolan, starring Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. This is, in fact, one of my favourite movies on this top 100 list! I have it on DVD and I love watching it with other people who are seeing it for the first time, to watch them experience it and to hear what they think of it after.
It’s a movie where two great magicians, Bale and Jackman, do their damnedest to outdo one another after an accident (or was it?) ended their friendship. They go beyond everything and everyone to be seen as the best, wrecking their personal lives and relationships along the way.
Scarlett Johansson stars as a pawn for Jackman to spy on Bale and Michael Caine is cast as the Alfred to Jackman’s Batman, the person who designs his tricks and helps him improve himself as a magician. The movie even stars none other than David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. If that wasn’t enough to convince you, just take a look at this trailer:
Happy watching,
Loes M.
