2016 Reading Challenge

Have you ever taken part in a Reading Challenge? I have personally never really needed an incentive to read more, I read about a book a week anyway. I do need an incentive to log all the books I read though, which is why I’m taking part in the Goodreads Reading Challenge again this year. I’ve set myself a goal of 50 books this year, and so far I’ve read 10, which means I’ve reached 20% of my goal so far.

So far, over one and a half million have set themselves a Reading Challenge on Goodreads, pledging over 82 millions books. So Goodreads users have set themselves a goal of 48 books on average for 2016. So far they have finished 10% of the goal (a little over 8.3 million books). And there are still 281 days left to finish the 2016 Reading Challenge. Should be doable, right?

I think a lot of people (on Goodreads) are like me by the way. They don’t need incentives to read, but to keep recording what they’ve read. This shows in last year’s numbers. In 2015, almost 2 million people set themselves a reading goal, but only 30 million of the 95 million pledged books were finished. (Of course it’s also possible that as the new year began, a lot of people set “reading more” as a resolution, but were unable to keep it up. But I like my explanation better!)
